It all begins somewhere. For me, that place was The Halifax Golf Club, in West Yorkshire.
I grew up here, spending weekends in my Dad’s pro shop. I can still smell the wool jumpers, glue, and grass cuttings. That black and white photo of Hogan hitting his one iron hung over the back of the counter. Halifax is a heathland / moorland course in the heart of the Yorkshire moors, not far from Haworth. It displays excellent views over the victorian textile-mill-heavy town of Halifax below.
Originally a James Braid design, founded in 1895. Then in 1912 re-designed to its current configuration by Alister Mackenzie, HXGC is a tough test for any golfer, especially when the wind blows, and it usually does.
